Alcohol Substance Abuse Protection (ASAP)

Longford has been selected by the GAA’s National ASAP Committee to participate in a pilot project designed to train GAA coaches in a specific player lifestyle and welfare intervention model intended to address potential issues relating to the misuse of alcohol or other drugs for that matter. The ASAP programme’s National Coordinator Colin Regan and National Committee chairman, Brendan Murphy, will be rolling out the training along with Jim O’Shea and Paul Goff, to be coordinated by the Longford County ASAP Officer, Bríd McGoldrick. County Coaching Officer, Gary Brady and the County Board request each club in Longford to send their Coaching Officer, and coaches working with adult teams to attend this BI training. This training will take place on Thursday the 10th May in Pearse Park from 6:30pm to 9:30pm with some refreshments after. More more on ASAP check out the player welfare link.

Cardiac Screening

We hope to hold professional cardiac screenings in the club shortly to look for any irregular heart patterns in players and members of the wider public. Healthy Hearts, Healthy Lives, who will carry out the tests, facilitates locally arranged cardiac screening clinics for those aged 14-35. It also aims to raise awareness of conditions that can lead to Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS). The screening costs €45 per person. Anyone interested in being screened please contact Bridie Reilly on 086 3332863 or any committee member. For more on cardiac screening check out the player welfare link
